Hi everyone,
I am an Individual Google One AI Pro subscriber, and I am running into a backend permission error when trying to generate a Gemini API key in Google AI Studio.
I think my account’s cloud identity might be broken as I am also locked out of completing the sign in process for Gemini Code Assist (a phantom project keeps being automatically pushed from the server and it loops a 403 permission denied error). I have also raised a bug report on the cloud-code-vscode repository regarding not being able to sign into Gemini Code Assist: [Bug] Gemini Code Assist Individual (AI Pro) Account Locked in 403 Permission Denied / Enterprise Project Loop · Issue #1224 · GoogleCloudPlatform/cloud-code-vscode
I have now also noticed when I go to Google AI Studio > Get API Key and click the main “Create API key” button, I get the following prompt:
“Unable to create API key. We were unable to create an API key and Google Cloud project for you.”
And there is an error at the top of the screen:
“Failed to create project: permission denied. Please try again.”
I can’t help but feel these two issues are related. I raised a support ticket with Google One support, but they advised they were unable to assist as they believe the issue is related to Gemini API.
This has left me with very little recourse. As a consumer paying for an Individual AI Pro subscription, I am stuck in a loop between Google One support (who cannot access Cloud backends) and Google Cloud developer tools (which incorrectly think I am an Enterprise user).
Could a platform engineer or community manager please look into my account and perform a hard reset on my cloud identity/entitlements? I just want the system to recognize my Individual subscription so I can generate an API key and use the tools I am paying for.
