"An internal error has occurred"

Hi all, I was constantly running into the same issue, and I finally figured out the cause. In my case, after I manually created some folders and files in the project source, it started throwing the “An internal error has occurred” error, and sometimes I saw it say “Permission Denied”. So, simply put, once I deleted the files and folders I created, it immediately started working fine again. Hope this helps anyone else running into a similar situation.

The issue still persists also on my side. I’m facing it in the Google AI Studio Playground, and even when I use simple short prompts it’s always returning the same “an internal error has occurred” error. And the support is really bad, I have never got any response when reporting bugs. If you’re still facing the issue, like me, you might want to also follow the topic right here: Nano Banana Pro: An internal error has occurred
People are reporting the same bug there as well. If it would be solved, you might get the solution on that topic first.

I think it is some corruption in the chat of an app, because other apps are not affected.
For me it now also says “Gemini 3 Pro Preview Canceled”, on all chats, therfore I cannot edit or refresh it.
And i cant reset the conversation either.
The weird thing that even when I do an app copy, to get rid of my old chat, the new app chats also throws the same “An internal error has occurred” error.
I’m sure it’s not cache or browser related, because even when I run it on another PC I have the same problems. Maybe it is a reverse cache problem?

Drives me mad also when it is not clear what the issue is. Try this :white_check_mark: in settings select API Key and in the popup click reset and it goes back to free. Sometimes this helps.
Also I find running two sessions in same account might also do this.
:folded_hands:t2: Google please also bring back New chat to start new threads I think this will also help.
Loving AiStudio when it works

This may be the craziest approach, but I’d tried everything else mentioned:

  1. Click “Remix” which may help reboot if your chat log is filled with internal error replies.
  2. The Remixed app likely gives you 1 more shot at debugging whatever is causing the internal error before it starts doing it again.
  3. Use this prompt or something like it to force a pre-emptive diagnostic: you’re about to crash the app and then give me a string of messages that state to me that internal error is going to occur and that I should retry, but when i retry it won’t work, ever. knowing this future, is there anything you could fix now?
