About Gemini models' video understanding capabilities

I saw in the Gemini doc that when it comes to utilizing Gemini’s video understanding capability, only public videos can be uploaded and analyzed by the models. I find the term “public videos” rather vague. What kind of videos are counted as public? Do they refer to videos that have been posted on YouTude, or any videos that have been uploaded to mainstream video platforms in addition to YouTude?

Hi
I’ve been working on an agent that analyses youtube urls with Gemini.
It fetches new public videos to a youtube channel (not unlisted, not private) as well as youtube shorts and analyses them.

you can give gemini a youtube url within your prompt. you can also work on other platforms’ videos but according to my experience you can’t embed the url into the prompt. I had to put the video on a bucket in my Google Cloud then make Vertex AI work on it.

And public video means publicly shared on a platform. you can’t use gemini to understand a unlisted, private, password protected video since it will not have an access to it.

**I’m not an expert on these topics but I wanted to share things I know.
