I’ve noticed for the past week or so the Ai Studio icon on my phone (Samsung s23) keeps shrinking, the actual logo, it seems to be getting smaller by the day. Very odd, is this happening to anyone else?
Hi Lee! This is a very specific and somewhat funny UI scaling bug, but there’s a perfectly logical explanation for it.
Why is this happening?
Google has recently listed an official app for Google AI Studio on the Play Store, but it is currently in the Pre-registered (Pre-registration) phase and hasn’t been publicly released for download yet. You can check the official page here:

Because the actual app isn’t installed yet, the icon on your phone is definitely a PWA (Progressive Web App) or a web shortcut created via Chrome’s “Add to Home Screen” feature.
On Samsung devices running One UI, there is a known layout caching bug involving Chrome-generated shortcuts. Every time Chrome runs background sync or your launcher refreshes its icon cache, Samsung’s system mistakenly applies a nested adaptive icon padding over the existing frame. This causes the internal logo matrix to scale down and “shrink” sequentially while the white outer bounding box stays the same.
How to Fix It instantly (Re-adding the Shortcut properly):

The Clean Reset & Re-add:
- First, delete the current shrinking “AI Studio” icon from your home screen.
- Open your Chrome browser, go to Settings > Privacy and security > Clear browsing data, and clear only the “Cached images and files” (this removes the broken icon vector from Chrome’s memory).
- Now, open Google AI Studio again: https://aistudio.google.com/
- Click Chrome’s three-dots menu (top right) and select “Add to Home Screen” or “Install app” to generate a fresh, perfectly scaled shortcut.

Fix via Launcher Cache (Without deleting the icon):
If it happens again and you don’t want to keep recreating the shortcut, just long-press on an empty space on your home screen → go to Settings → change your Home Screen Grid size (e.g., from 4x5 to 5x5) and then change it right back. This forces Samsung’s One UI launcher to hard-reset its asset vector caches and fixes the scaling instantly.
It’s completely harmless, just a quirky visual bug between Chrome’s web shortcuts and Samsung’s home screen launcher!
I have the same bug and I am using Xiaomi phone (same on OnePlus phone, so i think the device dosen’t matter). Maybe it is because of the new update. Hope they fix it soon.
