Usage Tier unexpectedly downgraded to Tier 1 and won't update after payment

Hi everyone,

I am experiencing a critical billing/sync issue where my Gemini API Usage Tier was unexpectedly downgraded, and it won’t restore even after a successful payment.

Here are the details of my issue:

  • Previous Status: I was safely on Tier 2.
  • The Incident: Last week, my usage tier suddenly dropped to Tier 1 without any clear reason or notification.
  • Action Taken: To recover my Tier 2 status, I immediately made a payment of $150 to my Google Cloud Billing account.
  • Current Status: The payment went through successfully, but my AI Studio dashboard is still stuck on Tier 1, and my rate limits are heavily restricted.

It seems like there is a synchronization lag or a bug between Google Cloud Billing and AI Studio tiering system (similar to what other users have reported recently).

Has anyone found a workaround for this, or could anyone from the Google team look into this sync issue?
