Fair point-my mistake on citing just Enterprise Agent Platform email and not extrapolating. That note clearly distinguishes Enterprise from Al Studio deprecation dates sure:

\*My broader point was about the rollout pattern: it’s standard practice across developer platforms to soft-deprecate or remove older models from the Ul playground first. The Studio Ul is designed for kicking off new prototypes, so pulling it from the frontend dropdown prevents developers from building new projects on a legacy model, while keeping the API endpoints live so existing codebases don’t break.

That said, I completely get why it’s frustrating when it disappears from the workbench without an upfront Ul banner while you’re still relying on it to debug API but they are completely at liberty to remove anything from AI studio at will. You agreed to this.

</div>

Clearly, I did not agree to that. If I had, I wouldn’t be here asking for an explanation in the first place.

I think it is basic common sense—and basic respect for users—that when a company makes a decision that will significantly affect people, such as discontinuing a model, it should provide advance notice and a clear removal date.

</div>

Fair enough apologies for the blunt phrasing on the terms. Advance notice is always better for workflow planning, and I get why having it vanish from the UI without a banner feels jarring.

To clarify my main point: Gemini 2.5 Pro hasn’t actually been discontinued or shut down.

The model is still fully alive and serving traffic right now. I still will have it on my projects until atleast January. Google only removed it from the AI Studio frontend dropdown picker. If you have projects running on 2.5 Pro or need to query it, the API endpoints and SDKs still accept calls to `gemini-2.5-pro-lite=etc` without issue.

Again it’s definitely inconvenient if you rely on the Studio web interface as a scratchpad, but your actual workloads and access aren’t cut off. Hopefully DevRel can chime in on whether the UI drop was intentional or an accidental bug. Best 🌹

</div>

I think you should understand that just because you personally were not affected does not mean that other people were not affected.

You also seem to agree that Google should not remove something arbitrarily without notice, so I’m not sure why you are using your own experience here to explain away what Google did.

Of course we know that the API is still temporarily available. That is not what we are talking about. Our complaint is that Gemini 2.5 Pro was suddenly removed from AI Studio without prior notice or warning, and that this caused serious disruption for us. Even now, the responses we have received have been dismissive and inadequate. The problem is not only the removal itself, but also Google’s attitude and the way users have been treated.

We are asking for access to be restored at least until the earliest deprecation date Google itself communicated publicly. Is that really an unreasonable request?

At this point, we are not even discussing the same thing. If you are not familiar with what actually happened, perhaps it would be better to understand the situation first before expressing your opinion.

Understood, and I appreciate the clarification. We’re looking at AI Studio’s role in the development workflow from different angles, and I didn’t mean to minimize the disruption to how you use the workbench.

I’ll step aside and let DevRel address the request to restore the picker. Hope you get a clear answer from them soon.

Yeah, and this won’t end until something changes or Gemini 4 outperforms 2.5 Pro, at least. I wouldn’t be here if Gemini Pro models were on par with their Claude Opus counterparts. I made a point about how model deprecation should work for groundbreaking models. Please help out by bringing attention to this thread.

> I know the response to this will be a copy-pasted paragraph starting with “To ensure reliable performance for everyone, we are limiting access to the 2.5 models to users who have actively used them in the past.” I’ve already read it. That exact sentence has been sent to every person raising this issue, word for word, without addressing a single specific question. I’m documenting that here so when it shows up again, there’s a clear record that it doesn’t constitute an answer and won’t be accepte…

Gemini 2.5 Pro has a very **unique texture** to its outputs that just can’t be replaced by stronger models or anything else out there.

I once did a side-by-side test, and 2.5 Pro delivered miraculous results, whereas models from other companies—or even newer Gemini releases—didn’t perform as well. There are countless edge cases like this. If Google retires 2.5 Pro, all of that research value will be completely lost.

A model that **debuted at #1 across all categories on the Arena** , achieved the **biggest score jump in history (40 points)**, and **held the top spot for over seven months** is a true milestone. It absolutely deserves to be preserved, both for Google’s brand reputation and for its historical value in model research.

Google should keep Gemini 2.5 Pro available long-term.

Anthropic has permanently preserved Opus 3, which is loved by many people. weill Gemini 2.5 Pro is an equally or even more beloved model that has driven tremendous success for Google, Google has every reason to consider keeping it available for long term use.

and such a sudden change in availability shows a complete lack of respect for users.

Thanks.
