Terminal text glitched / overlapping characters in Google Antigravity during Next.js/Vite HMR

I am currently working on a React application (using Next.js/Vite) inside Google Antigravity. I’ve been using this since they launched the IDE. While running the development server, the terminal suddenly glitched, and the text rendering completely broke or it’s invisible.

Antigravity is really a good agent first IDE for coding, saving time and coding faster. But lately even its models are damn slow and takes even more than 30 minutes to do a simple thing. It’s either google servers are encountering high traffic or they are slowing it down free users.

As you can see in the screenshot, the terminal output is heavily corrupted or invisible:

  • Most of the standard logs have vanished or turned into scattered, floating letters (b, D, N T, P, H, Y, etc.).
  • Numbers and random text segments are detached from their usual lines and overlapping vertically or horizontally.
  • The only clearly readable line left before the text broke completely is hmr invalidate.

I’m not sure why it’s happening but everything is invisible and this seems to happen directly during Hot Module Replacement (HMR) triggers when I save changes to my code.

What I’ve tried (Nothing Worked Yet):

  • Clearing the terminal (clear or cls) clears the screen.
  • Restarting the terminal instance.
  • Restarting Antigravity.

Has anyone encountered this specific terminal rendering corruption in during hot reloading Any workarounds would be highly appreciated!

Hi @SuneraX,

Thanks for the screenshots! That kind of scrambled, floating text is almost always a graphics rendering glitch in the terminal, not a problem with your app or with HMR itself. Try these in order:

  1. Turn off terminal GPU rendering. Press Ctrl+Shift+P, open “Preferences: Open User Settings (JSON)”, add "terminal.integrated.gpuAcceleration": "off", then restart Antigravity.
  2. Update your graphics drivers, especially if you’re on a laptop with two GPUs.
  3. If it still glitches, launch Antigravity with --disable-gpu to see whether the problem goes away.
  4. Quick workaround: run the dev server in an external terminal while you code in Antigravity.

On the slowness: response times can vary with demand, and very long conversations also slow things down. Starting a fresh conversation for each task and using Flash for quick changes usually makes a big difference.
