Request manual review: My project got restricted after accidental 429 due to network lag

Hello team,

I am a student using Gemini free API for personal hobby use.

Last night my network was very unstable and slow. Without knowing the risk, I clicked retry several times when requests timed out. This triggered repeated requests and error 429.

Later I found my project access to Generative Language API has been restricted. I never intended to abuse or spam the API.

I have learned that retrying many times on timeout is against best practices. I will configure my client properly: disable auto‑retry, add delay between requests, and avoid rapid re‑rolls in the future.

Could you please kindly review my project and lift the restriction if possible?

Thank you very much.

Hi @xjy_gg,

A project access restriction (HTTP 403 or “Unavailable” status) indicates that an automated verification or security flag has been placed on your account. Since you are on the Free Tier, please try the following steps to restore access:

  1. Check Model Availability & Rate Limits: Verify that the model you are requesting is available on the Free Tier and check your active limits on the AI Studio Rate Limit dashboard.
  2. Complete Account Verification: Complete age verification at Google Account Age Verification and verify your date of birth in Google Account Personal Info, complete Phone Verification, and enable 2-Step Verification (2SV) on your Google Account.
  3. Create a New API Key: Once age, phone, and 2SV verification are configured, retry your request or generate a new API key in Google AI Studio.
  4. Upgrade to Paid Tier (if still blocked): If completing these steps does not restore access, consider adding prepayment credits in Google AI Studio Billing or attaching a Google Cloud Billing account (note that this will forfeit your Free Tier quota).

Hi!

I hope you’re doing well.

I just wanted to let you know that access has been temporarily limited due to technical system limits on the number of simultaneous requests, possibly caused by fluctuations in internet speed.

There’s no need to worry; this is a common issue and should be resolved quickly.

To keep things moving, I suggest taking a short break for a few minutes and then continuing with a small reset.
