# Request for review: Gemini API key creation fails with The request is suspicious

Hello Google AI Studio team,

On September 12, 2026 (KST, UTC+9), I could not create a Gemini API key in Google AI Studio. The error contains the exact text:

> Failed to generate API key, The request is suspicious. Please try again.

I reproduced this by manually clicking the create button in Safari on macOS. I also have a screenshot of the same error from the manual attempt.

What I confirmed:

- My existing project is shown as Free Tier in AI Studio.
- AI Studio Billing shows that no billing account is linked.
- Creating an API key in the existing project fails.
- Creating a new project also fails with the same “The request is suspicious” error.
- The failure happens before an API key is issued. I have not reached the stage of making Gemini API requests for this setup.

I am trying to use the Gemini API Free Tier for a personal, noncommercial application. Could you please review these failed creation requests and advise which account or project checks are needed to resolve the issue through the normal support process?

Are you perhaps using one of the following:

- A VPN.
- Shared IP address.

Workaround is to use an Android phone and try from there.  
I am not a Google employee, so I can’t do more to help.
