I am working on a student internship project called AI Cognitive Alarm. This is an academic/student project, and I am currently unable to set up billing for the Google Cloud project.
I have already created a new Google AI Studio project and API key and restricted the key to the Gemini API as recommended. However, requests from my Node.js backend still return:
403 PERMISSION_DENIED: Your project has been denied access. Please contact support.

Since I cannot attach a billing account, could you please advise whether the project can be reviewed/unflagged for Gemini API access, or whether there is another way for a student project to use the Gemini API without setting up billing?
I tested gemini-2.5-flash as suggested, but it returns 404 stating that the model is no longer available to new users. I then tested gemini-3.5-flash, which is available in my model list, but it returns 403 PERMISSION_DENIED: Your project has been denied access. My API key is restricted to the Gemini API. I cannot set up billing because this is a student internship project. Could you please review the project/account flag or provide an alternative way to obtain Gemini API access without billing?
