Problem with antigravity CLI using shell commands for everything

My Antigravity CLI has been behaving weirdly lately. It keeps using Bash commands like find, grep, and sed instead of its native tools.

The bigger problem is that when it edits files with sed, the /rewind command becomes basically useless because those changes aren’t tracked properly.

Is anyone else experiencing this? I tried forcing to NOT use shell commands and python scripts like that in AGENTS.md but it just won’t stop. Earlier it was not like this.

Hi @flying_manta ,

Thank you for reaching out.

To resolve this and keep /rewind working properly, please follow the below steps:

  1. Re-enable Native Search Tools via a Custom Agent: Create a Custom Agent file in ~/.gemini/config/agents/ and explicitly add find_by_name, grep_search, and list_dir under tools: in its YAML frontmatter, then select it using /agent.
  2. Keep Terminal Command Execution Set to Ask: Avoid auto-approving all shell commands (Always Allow) so the agent uses its built-in file-editing tools (replace_file_content / multi_replace_file_content) instead of modifying files via sed.
  3. Update to Antigravity CLI v1.2.9: Run agy update (or download from Google Antigravity - Download) to get the latest v1.2.9 release, which includes /rewind snapshot resolution and step-tracking improvements.

Please let us know if this helps resolve the issue.
