Persistent Latency and "Infinite Thinking" Loops in Android Studio AI (Gemini 3.1 Pro)

Hi everyone,

I’m reaching out to see if others are still experiencing severe slowness with the AI integration in Android Studio. Despite the recent updates to Gemini 3.1 Pro, the latency issues haven’t improved—in fact, they seem to have worsened over the last few days.

The specific issues I’m seeing:

  • Infinite Loops: The “thinking” indicator runs indefinitely for even basic refactoring tasks.

  • Response Lag: When a response finally does arrive, it takes 3–5 minutes for a few lines of code.

  • Context Timeouts: Larger projects seem to cause the backend to hang, frequently resulting in “Internal Error Occurred” or “Task Canceled” messages.

I’ve tried clearing the IDE cache and restarting, but the problem persists across different networks. Is there an official status on the backend stability for the Gemini 3.1 rollout, or is this a local resource management issue within the IDE?

Any workarounds or insights would be appreciated.

To be brief - I can confirm you are not the only one still facing these issues. Google has set the current status of ai studio to fully functional, which is untrue.

Nothing has been working for a few days now, and the situation is getting worse.

Gemini in Android Studio is practically undependable; Android Studio makes the whole coding process a debugging and waiting session.
