Need for a fairer voting page

Hi all, thanks for your great work on the competition!

I would like to propose a change in the UX for the voting page. Currently, the voting page displays only 3 projects at a time on desktop and 1 at a tie on mobile. While the “shuffle” option shows new projects, it appears to present them in a random order. This means that the chance of viewing all the projects is extremely low, and many projects might never be shown to a significant number of voters. Even if a user clicks “shuffle” hundreds or thousands of times, there is no guarantee they will see every project due to the random nature of the display.

Feels the system primarily benefits those who receive direct traffic to their project pages via shared links, benefitting people with large circles and social media following. To provide a fair opportunity for all projects to be seen and voted on by the public, I suggest implementing a browsing mechanism that:

  • Allows users to browse all projects sequentially or through categories/tags, ensuring visibility for every entry.
  • Displays more projects at a time (e.g., 20 or 30 per page) to improve discoverability.
  • Provides filtering or search options so users can easily find projects that match their interests.

This approach would enhance the voting experience, ensure fairness, and give all projects a fair chance to be viewed and appreciated by the public. I hope the team considers this feedback to improve the competition experience for everyone involved.

Thank you!

I think the current vote page is good! We have around 3,000 submissions, so at least each submitter will visit the vote page and shuffle once. Add up those numbers, and there’s no way a project will be missed or not shown. The remaining task is to let the statistics do their work.

You seem to be content with one visit to your submission? Apologies but I’m sure most would like a wider reach!

It’s a 1 in 1000 chance of seeing a specific project (3/3000) per shuffle. Please do the math  . A browsing mechanism would ensure all projects have a fair chance to be seen and appreciated, rather than leaving it to chance.

It is just for fun

You can try this
I remade the competition website to show all submitted apps, and on hover, you can play the submitted video - Gemini API Developer Competition - Build with Google AI

A humble feature request - A small vote count beside the Voted button would be really appreciated. It’ll let us know how well we are doing (participants) and also let us know our true friends (someone might tell me they’ve voted for my app when they probably didn’t even visit the site). I really hope this feature request is granted. Thanks for your hardwork.

I know people are saying the page is not perfect but really appreciate your effort in administrating and answering posts in this group!

Cheers,
