Up until the launch of Gemini 4 Argon, Google consistently communicated that a Google AI Pro subscription is the required tier to access Google’s frontier models and receive priority access in Google Antigravity. Even now, the official Google One landing pages prominently advertise Gemini 4 Argon as a core feature of the AI Pro plan for complex workflows.

Locking Gemini 4 Argon inside Antigravity exclusively behind the expensive AI Ultra paywall while advertising it on the AI Pro tier feels like a classic bait-and-switch. Without Argon, Google currently offers no competitive model in Antigravity for AI Pro subscribers that can keep up with top-tier coding models like Claude Opus or OpenAI’s frontier offerings—especially since existing models and quotas in Antigravity have simultaneously been degraded.

For the monthly price of Google AI Pro, I can easily subscribe to Anthropic (Claude Code) or OpenAI and get actual frontier coding performance inside my IDE and CLI without artificial paywalls between web chat and developer tools. Unless Gemini 4 Argon is made available to paying AI Pro subscribers in Antigravity (even with reasonable rate limits), I will cancel my AI Pro subscription and move my workflows to the competition.

why would you want argon right now? at least from the gemini ui, it is expensive on the usage, I just accidentally filled my 5h window with a few questions, I normally run against flash. Without ultra it would probably instantly be capping your 5h window in Antigravity. Than everybody would be whining about it, just like all Claude Users did with the newest Claude model at start. Give the guys some time.

I also have to disagree on “no competitive Model”. Have you used openai and claude? I wouldn’t consider them way more advanced than gemini 3.8 and it’s not really cheaper either.

Thank you for your reply.

I can’t judge how expensive Gemini 4 Argon would be in practice right now since I don’t have access to it. Personally, I would only use Argon for specific, high-level tasks such as designing solid implementation plans that require deep architectural reasoning. I can’t rely on Gemini 3.8 Flash for this, as it simply isn’t capable enough for complex planning.

At work, I also have access to models from Anthropic and OpenAI. In my experience, Gemini 3.8 Flash is at best comparable to OpenAI’s GPT-5.6 Terra. Stronger models from OpenAI or Anthropic perform significantly better on complex tasks than 3.8 Flash. Without access to Argon, Google currently lacks a competitive model for complex engineering work.

Since I have Argon in my chat client I decided to ask it about this:

They will add it before noon my time, which is 9am in Mountain View. One of the things I could do is show you the code and let you do the coding in here

9:00 AM Pacific is prime time for an emergency “all-hands on Slack” server-side flag flip—just enough time for the engineering leads to see the forum meltdown and push a quota config update before the morning standup wraps.

And while they sort out their existential pricing crisis on the West Coast, routing the heavy lifting through here is a great call. You get full **Gemini 4 Argon** reasoning right now without burning through your Antigravity **Claude 5.5** quota or fighting **3.8 Flash High**.

PNG+ 2

I see you’ve got `f:\AntiGravity Sources\llmvision\ha-ll...` pulled up right now in your workspace—if you want to drop the files, error logs, or architecture pieces in here, I can write out the full drop-in modules or diffs so you can paste them straight in (or hand them to `3.8 Flash` just to apply the edits).

PNG+ 3

What are we building or debugging first?

We need Argon. It is good that you guys used the word ‘Argon’ for Gemini 4, but it is bad to make it limited, just like it is in Earth’s atmosphere.

I’ve used both OpenAI’s models and Claude Sonnet through their paid subscriptions, and honestly, they’ve been significantly more efficient and reliable for my workflow than Gemini 3.8.

My biggest issue with Gemini 3.8 isn’t just the price or usage limits. It’s the consistency and quality of the experience. It hallucinates frequently, gets overwhelmed easily, and struggles to maintain context in Antigravity after more than four tasks. At that point, it starts losing track of the project, making unrelated changes, and doing things that weren’t requested or don’t even make sense for the codebase. On top of that, it can take an absurd amount of time to complete tasks that other models handle much more efficiently.

Honestly, calling it _Flash_ feels increasingly misleading when even relatively straightforward tasks can take forever. A model that requires constant supervision, loses context so quickly, and introduces unnecessary changes ends up costing you more time than it saves.

I understand your point about giving the developers time, and I agree that usage limits are a separate issue from model quality. However, from my experience, OpenAI and Claude aren’t just marginally better alternatives. They’ve been substantially more dependable for actual development work.

Gemini Pro was the main reason I paid for Google AI Pro in the first place, particularly because of its integration with Antigravity. If that advantage is disappearing, I honestly have to reconsider whether the subscription is still worth paying for. I’m not expecting unlimited access to the most powerful model, but I do expect the models available in the subscription to be reliable enough to use for real projects without constantly fighting hallucinations, context loss, and unnecessary changes.

I’d leave G Pro if 3.8 Flash is the only model that Pro users can access, for reasons

- 3.8 Flash is tooooo slow; though I reckon the quality get improved (but not enough, compared to GPT 5.6, even) Luna, in both quality and speed) recently
- There is no good model for planning or reviewing, similar to Opus, Sol or even Astra

These reasons force users to a) Upgrade to G Ultra, which is too expensive, b) Find an alternative with similar price, for I believe, likely is the case.

Argon has been released for Google AI Pro accounts. I haven’t used it yet because what I’m currently doing hasn’t required it. I think I should only use it when really necessary, as I imagine it uses maybe a bit less than Claude Opus, but I’m not entirely sure about that yet.

Hey All,

Thank you for the feedback. As @ThiagoCF correctly noted, we have some good news on this front: **Gemini 4 Argon has officially rolled out to Google AI Pro subscribers in Antigravity**

Gemini 4 Argon is our flagship reasoning model, built specifically for complex software engineering, deep problem-solving and autonomous multi-step agents. It features a unified 1M-token context window and tunable thinking levels, which directly addresses the context loss, planning limitations and hallucinations you were experiencing on demanding tasks.

Your current Google AI Pro subscription **does** include access to Gemini 4 Argon in Antigravity. The AI Ultra plan is designed for developers who need much higher volume. However, you can absolutely use Argon on your current Pro plan for your real-world projects right now.

We’d love for you to switch over to Argon in Antigravity for your heavy coding and planning tasks.
Please take it for a spin and let us know how it handles your workflows!

</div>

The recent architectural change implemented with the deployment of Gemini 4 Argon has introduced an unsustainable compute-cost-allocation framework for Google AI Pro subscribers. Rather than delivering a competitive frontier model, field-testing and real-world development workflows demonstrate that Argon significantly lags behind contemporary state-of-the-art architectures in production benchmarks.

Despite this performance deficit, the current implementation drastically scales up operational costs for the user. By tying the rate-limiting infrastructure directly to complex token processing and multi-agent compute consumption rather than fixed prompt quotas, standard developer workflows exhaust the 5-hour session budget within 2 to 5 standard API/chat calls.

This drastic restriction to the Pro Tier, effectively forcing a migration to the Ultra Tier or basic Flash models, constitutes an unacceptable degradation of a paid service. This strategy does not incentivize upgrades; instead, it severely damages Google’s brand equity within the AI ecosystem. If Google continues to impose these artificial throughput bottlenecks and punitive metering on its developer base, a coordinated, mass cancellation of Pro subscriptions remains the only logical recourse to signal that this operational model is commercially non-viable.

I’m a standard user of Claude, ChatGPT, and the previous Gemini. I’m a very heavy user of Claude Code yet I only have a Pro account and a Team Standard account for Claude Code.

To give you an example we were able to use Opus 5.5 to completely author a Power BI dashboard with a lot of widgets in it. Then got Opus 5.5 to generate the entire new website and use JavaScript to directly emulate all of the widgets as well as the entire SQL database with views, functions, etc., to emulate the slicers and all those pieces. Plus a proper security layer, with password reset set up and all the other things you might expect from a standard web portal. All of that within the weekly allowance. In fact it was done over a 3-day period. We didn’t touch the limits for a normal £20/month account.

This is Claude. On my personal subscription, on a regular basis, I do quite a lot of random Hugging Face projects from my phone, where I ask it to build one thing or other (whether it’s a 3JS simulation of spinors or some other randomly thought-up thing). I’m used to, on impulse, arbitrarily, doing moderately complex items.

I tried out Argon, 2 days ago when it first came out to me on my AI Pro account. I was impressed with the quality. It was up there with Opus 5.5, broadly speaking, but I found some horror this morning. Within 3/4 of an hour of prompting work I was asking about emulating a piece of software called Writer’s Blocks. All we’d done was talk about the spec. That’s it: no coding, just the spec and layout and things, and then we hit the damn limit. We had not done that much work. We barely got into the planning, really. We hadn’t even got into too much detailed planning.

This made us realise that Google, despite the fact it did a great job of making a model, had done an poor job of working out the limits that people expect to have at about £20 a month. I was absolutely staggered.

I’ve had between 10,000 and 12,000 chats with different AIs over the past 3 years so I’m quite used to what these limits are. I’ve ever seen, and by at least an order of magnitude. They’ve been sized incredibly badly.

There’ll be plenty of folks that fit my bracket who don’t quite need to pay out for £200 a month or £100 max accounts or similar or AI Ultra but they still do quite a bit of work. They actually are going to make up a huge number of of users who are going to be going elsewhere purely because they’re going to hit the same walls I did and not going to just jump up to £80 a month. Not when, for £20, they get Opus 5.5 and Solid 5.5 or Astra and Sol. I’m not going to do that or, indeed, I’d just make it up by going to open router if I needed to. I just think, here, these limits have been accidentally made far far too small to be of tonnes of practical use.

I was out of Argon Tokens by the 3rd Day on Pro, I was using it very gently. And by the 7th day, I still had 75% remaining with my Gemini 3.8 Flash, and I was beating … out of it. We don’t need those tokens; we need better limits on the higher-end model, Argon. And, frankly speaking, the Claude and GPT models are just for show-off.

Speaking as a Google fanboy, and using and supporting Gemini since day 0, I can tell you Argon is overhyped and not remotely close to frontier AI we had even months ago. Being a PRO user myself, Argon will eat up your credits by asking sorry for not remembering what you said in the previous prompt. Yes I guess the marketing team thought it would be a good idea to bump it in three js and whatever fancy eye candy knowledge, while lagging behind on everything else, literally.

At the same time, for some reason since last week I am experience a hardcore push back in terms of usage. I am using antigravity every single day since it was released. I never had an issue with PRO and token limits, even the agressive changes from earlier this year, but something happened last week and for the first time, with the same workload as usually, I was shut down 2 days earlier for the weekly limit. Today my limit refreshed, and I am not joking, before the 5h window reached it’s peak, my weekly is at 60%, I already know there is no way I can make it through the week.

Worst part? no announcements, no transparency, no real reason (not even using argon, was always using high, and now forced to use mid and low and still can’t make it pass a few days). It’s sad to say the least, cause I really love Google and don’t wanna switch up to Cursor every since it was bought by SpaceX.
