Google AI Studio Starter Tier not available when publishing, only prompts for billing

Subject: Google AI Studio Starter Tier unavailable when publishing, only prompting for Billing

Hello Google AI Studio team,

I am encountering an issue when trying to publish a full-stack application built using Google AI Studio Build Mode.

When selecting:

Publish → Get Started

at the Confirm project and billing step, the only things that appear are:

  • Default Gemini Project

  • No billing setup

  • Set up billing

  • Refresh

I have already clicked Refresh, but the Google Cloud Starter Tier option still does not appear.

I have never published this app before and do not want to enable Cloud Billing or add a payment method just to perform a deployment.

According to Google’s documentation, Google AI Studio Starter Tier should allow eligible users to publish up to 2 full-stack applications without creating a Cloud Billing account.

Project currently displayed by AI Studio:
gen-lang-client-0446904...

When I follow the flow, I am redirected to Google Cloud Console → Cloud Run and offered the $300 Free Trial, rather than the Starter Tier.

Could you please help check:

  1. Is my account eligible for the Google Cloud Starter Tier?

  2. Has the Starter Tier not been provisioned for my account yet?

  3. Is the deployment entitlement for AI Studio not yet active?

  4. Is there currently a known issue with Starter Tier publishing?

  5. Does the project gen-lang-client-044690.. affect the provisioning of the Starter Tier?

  6. What official steps should I take for the Starter Tier option to appear?

I do not want to enable Cloud Billing or create a new project before knowing whether the Starter Tier can be enabled for my account.

Thank you.

Hello @pbakstaipati ,

Not all accounts are eligible for The Starter Tier. Please check out the caveats mentioned in the Google AI Studio deployment documentation. Eligibility is determined automatically, and we cannot review Starter Tier access manually.

You might want to consider linking a Cloud Billing account to your project.
