Google AI Studio Build Agent Keeps Getting Stuck on Multiple States – Only Affects One Google Account

Hello everyone,

I’m experiencing a persistent issue with the Google AI Studio Build Agent. The Agent gets stuck in different states, such as “Thinking,” “Working,” and other processing states, without showing any actual progress.

The most concerning part is that the Agent does not appear to perform any actions, such as reading files, generating code, modifying files, or executing commands.

What I’ve tested so far:

  1. Original project: My main project gets stuck repeatedly, regardless of the prompt I use.

  2. New project: I created a completely new and much smaller project to rule out issues related to project size or complexity. The Agent still gets stuck.

  3. Incognito mode: I tried Google AI Studio in Chrome Incognito mode, but the problem persists.

  4. Different Google account: I signed in with another Google account on the same computer and tested Build. It worked normally.

  5. Gemini Chat: Regular Gemini conversations work normally on my original account. The problem appears to be limited to the Build feature.

The Agent also gets stuck at different stages, so the issue does not seem to be limited to a particular processing state.

My questions:

  • Could this be an account-specific issue affecting the Build Agent?

  • Is it possible that my account’s Build execution environment or session is stuck or corrupted?

  • Has anyone experienced a similar issue where Gemini Chat works normally, but Build consistently fails on one account?

  • Is there any way to reset or repair the Build Agent environment associated with my account?

I have not been able to identify the root cause yet. Since Build works normally with another Google account on the same computer, I suspect the issue may be related to my original account or its Build execution environment.

Any suggestions or help from the Google AI Studio team or other developers would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Update – September 29, 2026

The issue temporarily resolved after more than 12 hours, and the Build Agent worked normally for approximately one hour. However, the issue returned again.

I then created a new Build conversation and sent an extremely simple prompt that explicitly instructed the Agent not to access, read, create, or modify any project files. The Agent still became stuck on “Thinking/Working” without performing any visible action.

I also switched to a different model, but the behavior remained unchanged.

This makes it increasingly unlikely that the issue is caused by my project, project size, prompt complexity, or a specific model.

The same computer and browser can use Build normally with another Google account, while Gemini Chat continues to work normally on the affected account.

Current behavior:

  • Affected Google account → Build gets stuck

  • Different Google account → Build works normally

  • Gemini Chat on affected account → works normally

  • New project → Build still gets stuck

  • New Build conversation → still gets stuck

  • Simple prompt without project access → still gets stuck

  • Different model → still gets stuck

  • Waiting for more than 12 hours temporarily resolved the issue, but it returned after approximately one hour of normal use

Could the Google AI Studio team please check whether there is an account-level Build Agent execution, session, entitlement, or backend issue associated with this account?

Additional information:

The affected Google account is my Google AI Pro account.

This is important because Build works normally with another Google account on the exact same computer and browser, while the Google AI Pro account consistently experiences the Build Agent issue.

Gemini Chat also works normally on the affected Google AI Pro account. The problem appears to be specifically related to the Build feature.

I would appreciate it if the Google AI Studio team could check whether there is any account-level Build entitlement, execution environment, session, or backend issue affecting this Google AI Pro account.

New test: I created a minimal read-only prompt that only asked the Agent to read ClassroomRosterManager.tsx and return READ_OK, with explicit instructions not to modify any files. The Agent remained in Running for several minutes and displayed svgCrafting, despite the prompt not requesting any SVG or UI generation.
