Google AI Studio project gen-lang-client-061001901.. is Tier 1 prepaid and API requests are recorded, but Gemini GenerateContent requests return 403 PERMISSION_DENIED: Your project has been denied access. Please contact support. Please review the project’s Gemini API access restriction.
The same error persists with a newly created project and a newly generated Gemini API key. Gemini API is enabled, and the API key is restricted to the Gemini API only.
The request is made from Google Apps Script using the Gemini generateContent REST API.
Hello @bloom-tokyo ,
Getting a 403 API error response and / or seeing “Unavailable” next to your project in AI audio indicates a flag has been placed on your account. To proceed:
-
If you’re on the free tier with no billing attached, please try the below steps:
-
Check Model Availability & Rate Limits:
- Ensure that the model you are requesting is available on your current plan. For example, not all models are available on the free tier. You can verify model availability, quotas, and limits on the AI Studio Rate Limit dashboard.
-
Ensure you have completed age verification by navigating to Google Account Age Verification and verifying date of birth in Google Account Personal Info.
-
Complete Phone Verification and turn on 2-Step Verification (2SV) on the Google Account associated with your project.
-
Once age, phone and 2sv are configured, retry your request or create a new API key in Google AI Studio.
-
If completing these steps still does not restore access (or if using a model requiring a paid tier), you might want to consider adding prepayment credits directly in Google AI Studio and/ or attaching a Google Cloud Billing account in the Google Cloud Console. Please note this will mean you lose your free tier quota.
-
If you are on a paid tier:
-
Check for banners / error callouts in the AI Studio Projects page & the Billing page. Mostly these flags cause visible banners or other errors on these pages with concrete next steps / appeal links. You can also check the email address associated with your project for information on next steps.
-
If your GCP project/ billing account is suspended, you must submit an appeal directly through the Google Cloud Console following the Project Suspension Guidelines (Help Center)
Hello, thank you for the guidance.
I am using a paid Tier 1 prepaid Google AI Studio project: gen-lang-client-0610019013. However, my Google Cloud Customer Care plan is Basic (billing support only), so I do not have access to paid Google Cloud technical support.
I have completed the following:
- Gemini API is enabled.
- Billing / prepayment is active.
- Age verification is completed.
- Phone verification is completed.
- 2-Step Verification is enabled.
- A new Gemini API key was created and configured.
- The key is restricted to the Gemini API only.
After completing these steps, I retried the Gemini generateContent REST API request from Google Apps Script. However, it still returns:
403 PERMISSION_DENIED: Your project has been denied access. Please contact support.
The same issue also occurred with the previous project and a newly created project/key. Could you please confirm whether an account-level or project-level restriction remains, and advise how I can request a manual review or appeal?
