Gemini-3.1-flash-lite-image suddenly changed to Free Tier quota limit 0

Hello Google Gemini API Support Team,

I’m experiencing an unexpected quota issue with the Gemini API.

I have been using the gemini-3.1-flash-lite-image model for image generation in my application, and it was working previously. However, it has suddenly stopped working and now returns a 429 RESOURCE_EXHAUSTED error.

The error specifically says:

Quota exceeded for metric: generativelanguage.googleapis.com/generate_content_free_tier_requests, limit: 0

It also shows:

model: gemini-3.1-flash-lite-image

and:

GenerateRequestsPerDayPerProjectPerModel-FreeTier

I understand that quotas and model availability can change, but I would like to understand why this model previously worked for my project and is now showing a Free Tier limit of 0.

Could you please check whether:

1. Free Tier access for gemini-3.1-flash-lite-image has recently changed.
2. My project has an account-specific or project-specific quota restriction.
3. There is currently an issue with quota enforcement for this model.
4. Any action is required on my side to restore access.

This model is an important part of my application’s Lookbook feature, so I would appreciate it if you could investigate the project/model access rather than simply confirming that the request exceeded quota.

I can provide my Google Cloud project ID, API key/project details, timestamps, and the complete error response if required.

Hello @Navya_Sri_Janaki_Ann, please note that Free Tier quota limits for image models are set to 0, which requires a paid tier to access image generation capabilities. You can check the specific rate limits and model availability for your project tiers directly on the Rate Limits Page.
