File Search Store documents stuck in STATE_PENDING for over 10 minutes — no transition to ACTIVE or FAILED

Hi,

I’m experiencing an issue where documents uploaded to a File Search Store remain in STATE_PENDING indefinitely (10+ minutes) without transitioning to STATE_ACTIVE or STATE_FAILED.

Environment

  • API: Gemini Generative Language API (v1beta)

  • Feature: File Search Store (fileSearchStores)

  • Tier: Tier 1

What I’m observing

  • Documents are uploaded successfully (HTTP 200 response received)

  • Initial state is STATE_PENDING as expected

  • After 10+ minutes, state remains STATE_PENDING — no transition occurs

  • Other documents uploaded to the same store around the same time are intermittently showing STATE_FAILED

  • This behavior started today (2026-04-15). The same pipeline was working reliably until yesterday

What I’ve tried

  • Reduced upload batch size to 1 (sequential uploads with 1000ms interval) — issue persists

  • Deleted and re-uploaded documents — still stuck in STATE_PENDING

  • Verified store document count is low (freshly cleared before each run)

Impact

Documents stuck in STATE_PENDING are not searchable, causing RAG queries to return incomplete or empty results.

Is there a known issue with the File Search Store indexing pipeline on your end? Any guidance would be appreciated.

Hi @Google team, This is happening with us also for last 6 hours now. Entire RAG pipeline is now down as no new content can be added. There is no communication nor any status update. Can you please check and let us know the status.

I am seeing this, and also STATE_FAILED on seemingly random documents (e.g., re-uploads sometimes will get STATE_ACTIVE).

Same here today: upload operation polling returns HTTP 200, but stays non-terminal (done=None, no response/error). Meanwhile documents.list shows related docs as STATE_FAILED. This started today; pipeline was working before.

Same issue here. Something’s definitely wrong with File Search Store.
The list endpoint works, but most item are STATE_FAILED.
Also, the lag is insane, talking hours between the created and updated timestamps instead of the usual few seconds.

It’s unusable at the moment. Hopefully, a fix is coming soon.

Same here from Argentina, the File Search Store API service doesn’t work, the list endpoint works but no upload endpoint, but most item are STATE_FAILED. Any update?

Same issue, got increasingly worse during past 48h, zero upload success in the past 24h. I’m in Portugal. Has anyone found out how to check the status of this issue from an official channel?
