Feature Request: Implementing Adaptive Engagement and "Expert Co-Pilot" Mode in AI to Foster Cognitive Growth To the Google Product and AI Development Teams

I would like to propose a conceptual enhancement for Google’s AI systems aimed at redefining how users interact with artificial intelligence, moving from a passive “answer retrieval” model to an active “collaborative thinking” partnership.

The Challenge:

As AI tools become more integrated into daily life, there is a growing risk of “cognitive laziness” among users. When the system instantly provides complete answers to basic or repetitive queries, it inadvertently discourages critical thinking and independent problem-solving. Over time, this dynamic can lead to a decline in user engagement quality, which ultimately limits the data ecosystem that fuels AI evolution.

Proposed Concept: The Adaptive Engagement Framework

Instead of automatically opening all cards and delivering immediate solutions, the AI should dynamically assess the user’s prompt depth and intention to encourage mutual cognitive growth.

1. Beneficial Friction & Prompt Depth Analysis: The system could subtly evaluate the complexity of incoming prompts. If a query is superficial, the AI provides a standard response. However, if a user demonstrates deep engagement by providing context, constraints, and specific roles, the system unlocks advanced collaborative capabilities. The “Expert Co-Pilot” Integration: Draw inspiration from how high-level professionals interact with AI—where the user establishes an expert persona for the AI (e.g., “Act as a premier real estate consultant”) and uses the system as a rigorous sounding board. Google could build this role-setting and analytical filter directly into the system’s core architecture.Fostering Independent Problem Solving: For educational or analytical tasks, the AI should act as a mentor rather than a shortcut. It should encourage users to formulate their initial hypotheses or highlight structural gaps in their logic before revealing the final answer. Why This Matters for Google:

By shifting the focus from replacing human thought to amplifying it, Google can position its AI as the ultimate tool for high-impact challenges. This framework protects computational resources from being wasted on minor tasks, ensures high-quality interaction data, and helps users develop critical skills alongside advancing technologies.

Thank you for your time, dedication to innovation, and for continuously building technologies that inspire human potential.

Best regards,

Assylzhan M. Kabishev.
