I’m hitting the same issue reported in other threads here: when trying to generate a Gemini API key, I get “Failed to generate API key, The request is suspicious. Please try again.”
Timeline:
- Creating a new project directly in AI Studio also failed with “Failed to create project, the request is suspicious” (both via automation and when I tried manually myself).
- Worked around that by creating the project directly in Google Cloud Console instead, then enabled the Generative Language API on it.
- Imported the project into AI Studio successfully.
- Tried generating a key: same “suspicious” error.
- Waited 5 days, tried again: same error.
- Set up Cloud Billing (prepaid, added credits) on the project, thinking it might be a free-trial-project restriction: still the same error, immediately after billing was confirmed active.
So this doesn’t seem tied to time, to billing status, or to a specific browser/device - I’ve now hit it consistently across all of those. Could someone from the team take a look at my account? Happy to share project/account details privately if needed. Thanks!
