[Bug] "Http response at 400 or 500 level, error: , http status code: 400" - Infinite loading / black screen on threads with media files

Hello Google AI Studio Team,

I have been using Google AI Studio for a year without issues. Recently, almost all my saved chat threads that contain media attachments (videos, screenshots, and files) completely fail to load.

Issue Details:

- The screen gets stuck on a black screen with an infinite loading spinner.

- Error banner appears: “Http response at 400 or 500 level, error: , http status code: 400”.

- This happens across existing threads with media files that previously loaded and worked fine.

Environment:

- Platform: Google AI Studio (aistudio.google.com)

- Device: Android (Google Chrome mobile)

- Region: Philippines

I have attached the screenshot showing the exact error banner. Please help check if this is a backend file deserialization / session issue on my account. Thank you!

Hello @Aldrin_Delizo ,

Thanks for the detailed report. To help us narrow this down, could you check two things?

  1. Does the same thread load correctly when opened in a desktop browser?
  2. If you create a new thread and attach a media file, does that one load without the error?

Hi everyone,

This is my first post in the community, and I hope I’m providing all the data needed.

I’m having the same issue with only one chat. It stopped working while I was using it on my phone (Samsung S25) in Firefox, but it’s not working on my MacBook in Firefox either. There are probably images in that chat, like there are in most of my chats. No idea what’s causing it, and I’d really appreciate some help.

Platform: Google AI Studio (no API)
Region: Italy

TIA
