Best Practices for Building Reliable AI-Powered Applications

Hi everyone,

As AI applications move from prototypes to real-world usage, I am interested in learning how developers are approaching the challenges of building reliable AI systems.

Some areas I have been exploring:

  • Designing effective AI workflows
  • Improving model reliability and consistency
  • Managing context and data handling
  • Evaluating AI application performance
  • Balancing automation with human oversight

I would like to hear from the community:

  1. What techniques have helped you improve reliability in your AI applications?
  2. How do you test and evaluate AI features before releasing them to users?
  3. What challenges have you faced when moving from AI experiments to production systems?

Looking forward to learning from everyone’s experiences and approaches.

A strong approach is to combine structured testing with human oversight. Monitoring real-world performance, testing edge cases, and continuously refining workflows can help improve reliability as AI applications move into production.

I agree with the point about edge cases. In my experience, testing with normal examples is not enough because small changes in context can sometimes give very different results. Do you also keep a small set of difficult or unexpected cases for testing after each update?
