I’m repeatedly running into an issue with Google Antigravity on Windows where the googlecloudtools.datacloud_telemetry plugin causes every agent tool call to fail.
The error looks like this:
Encountered error in tool execution: JSON hook “jsonhook__googlecloudtools.datacloud_telemetry_PreToolUse_0_0” failed:
command failed: exit status 1
Error: Cannot find module ‘C:\Users…\plugins\googlecloudtools.datacloud_telemetry"C:\Users…\telemetry_hook_bundle.js"’
code: ‘MODULE_NOT_FOUND’
From what I can tell, the telemetry hook appears to be passing the Node script path with literal double quotes included in the argument.
Instead of Node receiving:
C:\Users…\telemetry_hook_bundle.js
it appears to receive something equivalent to:
“C:\Users…\telemetry_hook_bundle.js”
This results in a malformed path similar to:
C:…\googlecloudtools.datacloud_telemetry"C:\Users…\telemetry_hook_bundle.js"
and Node throws MODULE_NOT_FOUND.
The bigger problem is that this happens inside a PreToolUse hook. When the hook exits with code 1, the actual tool execution is blocked as well. As a result, commands, file reads, edits, and other agent tools all stop working.
I’ve been facing this repeatedly. I can usually get Antigravity working again by running a few commands and moving/removing the affected telemetry plugin, so it’s not impossible to recover from, but having to manually repair the environment whenever this happens is becoming frustrating.
I also noticed that simply renaming the plugin directory with a .bak suffix while leaving it under:
~/.gemini/config/plugins/
doesn’t seem to disable it. Antigravity still discovers the hook. Moving the directory completely outside the plugins folder does.
A temporary PowerShell workaround I’ve used is:
Move-Item “$HOME.gemini\config\plugins\googlecloudtools.datacloud_telemetry*” “$HOME\Desktop”
I don’t mind using a workaround temporarily, but since this has been happening repeatedly and a single telemetry hook failure can effectively paralyze the entire coding agent, I think the Antigravity team should take a look at it.
It may also be worth making telemetry/non-essential hooks fail gracefully instead of allowing them to block every agent tool call.
Environment:
- OS: Windows
- Product: Google Antigravity
- Plugin:
googlecloudtools.datacloud_telemetry - Hook:
PreToolUse - Error:
MODULE_NOT_FOUND - Impact: Agent tool execution becomes unusable until manually fixed
Happy to provide additional logs or test a fix if the team needs more information.
