I want to share a serious problem I’ve encountered while building an Android app with Google AI Studio.
I understand that AI-generated code will not always be perfect. That is not my complaint. The problem is that AI Studio has repeatedly changed parts of my application that I specifically did not ask it to change.
I have spent a considerable amount of time building my app and getting the screens, artwork, navigation, and functionality the way I want them. On multiple occasions, I have asked AI Studio to make one specific change, only to discover that it also modified or replaced unrelated parts of the application.
Most recently, I was trying to change my app’s launcher icon. Instead of simply replacing the icon while leaving everything else alone, AI Studio recreated/replaced artwork on my home screen that I had already finished. I then had to use additional AI Studio requests trying to repair something the AI itself had damaged.
That is where I believe the quota system becomes extremely unfair.
Every attempt to correct an AI-created mistake consumes more of the user’s quota. Eventually I reached the daily limit while I was still trying to restore my application, and AI Studio presented me with the option to upgrade and pay to continue.
In other words, the AI makes an unwanted change, the user spends their quota telling it to undo the unwanted change, and then the user can reach the limit and be asked to pay for additional usage to continue fixing the AI’s mistake.
Users need to be aware of this when using AI Studio for an existing project: be extremely careful what you ask it to modify and keep backups/checkpoints, because a seemingly simple request can result in unrelated parts of your project being changed.
More importantly, I believe Google needs safeguards for this. When an agent is instructed to modify one specific resource, it should not rewrite unrelated screens or assets. There should also be some mechanism for restoring AI-created mistakes without those repair attempts consuming the user’s paid or limited quota.
I actually like what AI Studio is capable of, and I was making substantial progress with my app. That is precisely why this is so frustrating. I shouldn’t have to spend additional quota—or potentially additional money—repairing parts of my project that the AI changed without being asked.
Please consider adding stronger file-change protections, clearer confirmation before unrelated files are modified, reliable rollback functionality, and some form of quota protection when users are correcting changes caused by the agent itself.
