AI Studio Android Build became unstable with Gemini 3.8 Flash and subsequently corrupted/failed to correctly apply changes to my existing Android app

I have been developing an Android application in Google AI Studio Build.

1. Gemini 3.8 Flash issue

Yesterday, while using Gemini 3.8 Flash, even very small changes to my Android application were taking an extremely long time.

The agent would remain working for a very long period and eventually terminate with:

“Quota exceeded. Please try again later.”

The same behavior continued today.

This was happening even for relatively small changes, so I do not believe the complexity of the requested modification explains the long execution time.

2. I switched to Gemini 3.7 Flash

Because Gemini 3.8 Flash was repeatedly taking too long and ending with the quota error, I switched the AI Studio Build model to Gemini 3.7 Flash.

It initially appeared to work.

However, when I subsequently asked it to make only a couple of changes to my existing Android application, something went seriously wrong.

Instead of making only the requested changes, AI Studio changed/rebuilt major parts of the application, including:

  • Settings
  • Layouts
  • Colors
  • Theme
  • Overall appearance
  • Other existing UI/configuration

In effect, the existing Android application was substantially altered even though I had not requested those changes.

3. Snapshot/version restore did not work correctly

I then attempted to restore one of the previous snapshots/versions available in AI Studio.

The restoration did not correctly restore my previous application.

This is particularly concerning because I was relying on the available snapshots as a safety mechanism before making further changes.

4. AI Studio reports success, but the application does not actually change

I then tried again to make the required changes.

The chat panel on the left reported that:

  • the requested changes had been successfully completed
  • the build was successful

However, when I inspected the application in the preview on the right-hand side, the requested changes had not actually been applied.

In other words, AI Studio reported a successful modification/build, but the resulting application did not correspond to what the agent claimed it had changed.

5. Concern

This is now preventing me from safely continuing development of the Android application.

The sequence appears to be:

Gemini 3.8 Flash: Long execution → “Quota exceeded”

Then Gemini 3.7 Flash: Unexpected major application changes → snapshot restoration does not reliably restore the previous state → subsequent changes are reported as successful but are not reflected in the application preview.

I would like the AI Studio team to investigate whether there is currently a problem with:

  • AI Studio Build/agent execution
  • Gemini 3.8 Flash
  • Build execution quotas
  • model switching within an existing project
  • snapshot/checkpoint restoration
  • synchronization between the agent’s reported changes and the actual Android project/preview
  • Android Build/container state

This is an existing application that had been working correctly before these problems occurred.

I can provide the AI Studio App ID, project information, timestamps, screenshots, and screen recordings if required.

Please let me know if the project can be inspected or the Build environment/checkpoint history can be repaired without losing the existing application.
