AI Studio Android app publishing fails with HTTP 403 Permission Denied

Hello,

I am trying to publish an Android app created with Google AI Studio to the Google Play Console internal testing track, but the publishing process consistently fails with:

“Failed to publish app”

The underlying error reported by the AI Studio diagnostic is:

generic::permission_denied: com.google.apps.framework.request.ForbiddenException (HTTP 403)

The request appears to involve:

androidpublisher.googleapis.com

App details:

  • App name: GymFit
  • Package name: com.aistudio.gymfit.hqwpzt
  • Play Console developer account: Jussier nunes da silva
  • Account type: Personal
  • The GymFit app is already registered in Google Play Console.
  • The AI Studio publishing interface correctly recognizes my Play Console developer account and the GymFit app.
  • The app build completes successfully.
  • Target SDK: 36
  • Google Play Billing: 8.0.0
  • Firebase Authentication and Firestore are working correctly.
  • The failure occurs specifically when AI Studio attempts to publish the app for testing.

I have already verified that my Play Console account is active and that I have access to the GymFit app.

I also checked Google Play Console > Users and permissions. Only my personal developer account is listed; there is no manually configured service account.

Could you please confirm whether this HTTP 403 is caused by an issue with the AI Studio → Google Play Console publishing integration, or whether additional authorization is currently required for AI Studio to publish Android apps to internal testing?

If additional configuration is required, please provide the exact current steps for the 2026 Play Console interface.

Thank you.

Hello @jussier_nunes ,

An HTTP 403 error on the Google Play Developer publishing endpoint typically indicates a missing API authorization or account linkage in Google Cloud Console or Google Play Console.

To help verify this, could you check the following:

  1. In your Google Cloud Console for the project associated with your app, verify that the Google Play Android Developer API is enabled under APIs & Services > Enabled APIs & services.

  2. In Google Play Console, navigate to API access (under Developer account settings) and confirm that your Google Cloud project is linked.

Thank you!
