I may have found a client-side cause/workaround for some instances of “Agent execution terminated due to error.”
Environment:
- Lenovo laptop
- Windows 11 Pro
- Chrome
- Gemini 3.8 Flash
- Same AI Studio account/project throughout testing
Results:
- Test 1 — Incognito window: Success
- Test 2 — Normal Chrome window: Failed with “Encountered retryable error from model provider: Agent execution terminated due to error.”
- Test 3 — Normal Chrome with all extensions disabled: Failed with the same error
- I then deleted only the local site data for
aistudio.google.com, completely closed Chrome, and restarted it. - Test 4 — Normal Chrome: Success
- Test 5 — Success
- Test 6 — Success
- Test 7 — Success
- Test 8 — Success
So in my case, disabling extensions did not resolve it, but clearing AI Studio’s local site data did. Incognito also worked before clearing the site data.
This does not prove every occurrence of this error is browser-related, but it may indicate that corrupted or stale AI Studio browser storage can cause the same agent-execution failure in some cases.
One other observation: AI Studio itself generated an explanation after Test 4 claiming earlier tests had produced “API overloaded” and “prepayment credits depleted” errors, but those errors had not occurred in my actual test history. The actual failures were the agent-execution termination error shown above.
